What is an ADU?
ADU is an acronym that stands for Accessory Dwelling Unit and this is a term used to describe buildings that are built on plots of land that already have a primary dwelling on it. Because these structures are additional, they’re considered an accessory to the space, which is where the name is derived from. What distinguishes an ADU as a dwelling unit instead of a recreational space like a workshop or entertainment is that the building has all the necessary components of a primary residence, such as a cooking space, a restroom, and sleeping quarters.

Layouts
When you’ve decided to move forward with a one bedroom ADU, you may be thinking that yours will look like every other one that we’ve built, but that’s not the case! Not all properties along coastal California are the same, and one bedroom ADUs aren’t all the same, either! Our team knows that your property and your home is a reflection of your personality and your family’s needs, so your ADU should fit in with that, too. We offer four different base layout plans to suit your family’s needs, your property’s limitations, and your overall project goals.
Emerald One
The Emerald One is one of a paired set of layouts designed to fit within a smaller building envelope while allowing for optimal living space inside the dwelling. With 560 square feet inside to work with, this longer ADU layout features a wide terrace with large windows that open up to allow natural light for a spacious and welcoming feeling. The terrace, which will be located on one of the smaller sides of the dwelling, is the perfect space for a small outdoor bistro set, an outdoor hammock, or even a small container garden, depending on your preferences.
Emerald Two
The Emerald Two layout is, at its core, similar to the Emerald One, but the exterior details are what sets this layout apart. Instead of a terrace along one of the shorter walls of the dwelling, the Emerald Two one-bedroom ADU features an outdoor finished space along one of the longer sides. This layout is perfect if you’re nestling your ADU along a corner of your property or if the residents of the ADU prefer to have a wider, more welcoming front door!
Agate
The Agate one-bedroom ADU layout is a square-shaped, 600-square-foot layout that is the perfect space for a couple and for entertaining guests! This layout features a larger bedroom, which can allow for a larger bed and can accommodate more accessories, too. In addition to a larger bedroom than the Emerald layouts, the Agate ADU features a larger bathroom, kitchen, and living room to ensure that residents enjoy spacious comfort, even if they invite guests over! Of course, outdoor space can make or break a home, so the Agate opens up to a terrace with enough space for outdoor entertainment, too!
Citrine
The largest of our one-bedroom ADU layouts is the Citrine, featuring 625 square feet, a large living space, and even a walk-in closet! The bedroom for this layout is also large enough to accommodate a bigger-sized bed as well as a dresser and other bedroom furniture, and the living space and kitchen open up onto a terrace as well! This layout is perfect for people who love to cook, too, with lots of counter space and an open living space that flows from kitchen to dining to living room seamlessly.
